Four Levers That Move Your Payment
Every payment estimate comes down to the same four inputs. Nudge any one of them and the monthly number follows. Here's what each lever actually does.
Down payment
Money down shrinks what you finance from day one. Even an extra $500 or $1,000 up front takes a bite out of every payment for the life of the loan — and it helps approval odds if your credit has a few dings.
Trade-in value
Your current car is a down payment on wheels. Get a real number for it before you calculate — value your trade here — then plug it into the field above. Owe money on it? The payoff comes out of the value, so use the difference.
Loan term
Stretching from 48 to 72 months lowers the monthly payment but raises the total interest you'll pay. There's no wrong answer — just know the trade-off before you pick. The calculator makes it easy to compare terms side by side.
Interest rate
Your rate depends on your credit profile, the vehicle's age, and the lender. Test a realistic range rather than one number — run it at 6% and again at 12% so nothing at the finance desk surprises you.
